What does the day look like?
Most of the day is inside Autodesk Revit: drawing and 3D parametric modeling of walls, slabs, doors, structural columns, or MEP routes; building Revit families; adding dimensions; and setting sheets. You usually work from an architect's or engineer's hand markup, 2D sketch, or notes. You extract elevations, sections, floor plans, construction details, and schedules from the model, and add LOD 200 to 350 parameters and asset data to model elements.
About 75% of the job is production and cleanup: repetitive modeling, parameter typing, dimensioning, sheet setup, and fixing graphic errors. 15% is basic clash checking in Navisworks or Revit and correcting issues marked by the BIM Coordinator. 10% is file admin: exports to IFC and PDF, ACC / BIM 360 uploads, issue tracker updates, and short internal huddles. Conceptual design is 0%: you do not choose the facade, floor layout, or artistic direction. Hours are usually 37.5 to 40 hours per week, with no on-call or night shifts; overtime mostly happens in the 48 to 72 hours before Tender, Planning, or Detailed Design deadlines.
