What does the day look like?
Around 80% to 90% of your day involves clinical governance, managing legal liability, drafting standard operating procedures (SOPs), preparing for regulatory inspections, and appointing Responsible Pharmacists across branches. The familiar image of standing in a white coat dispensing medications or consulting patients accounts for only 10% to 20% of your time, and often 0% in large corporate multiples.
Daily tools include pharmacy management systems like EMIS Health (ProScript Connect), Clanwilliam Health, Cegedim Healthcare Solutions (Pharmacy Manager), or Titan PMR, along with national portals such as NHS EPS, NHS MYS, myGPhC, and the MHRA Central Alerting System. While the standard executive schedule runs 37.5 to 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday (09:00 to 17:30), statutory legal liability is 24/7/365, leaving you on-call for urgent drug recalls, police investigations, or regulatory actions.
