What does the day look like?
As a marketing manager, your day is not mostly about making ads — it centres on strategy, budgets, and leading a team. You set the annual or quarterly marketing plan and budget, approve the channel mix (paid social, search, email, events), review funnel and ROI dashboards in tools like Google Analytics and Tableau, brief and quality-check agencies, hire or coach marketers, and align with sales and product on launches.
Roughly 20–25% of the day is campaign and brand decisions — the part teenagers usually imagine. About 35–45% goes to data, budgets, forecasting, and vendor or agency management. Another 25–35% is meetings, people management, and internal alignment. There is no shift work, on-call duty, or night shifts — standard office hours apply, but many people work more than 40 hours a week, with extra pressure around launch deadlines. Google Ads, HubSpot, Salesforce, Meta Ads Manager, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams/Slack, and Asana/Jira sit in the everyday stack.
