What does the day look like?
A treasury specialist manages a company's cash flow, bank accounts, and daily liquidity. The day starts by downloading MT940 or CAMT.053 bank statements via SWIFT, balancing zero-balance accounts, and calculating net liquidity across operational entities. Throughout the day, you move funds between accounts to prevent overdrafts, invest surplus cash into overnight repos or short-term deposits, execute FX spot trades for supplier invoices, and update 13-week cash flow forecasts. You work with specialized Treasury Management Systems (TMS) such as Kyriba, FIS Quantum, or SAP S/4HANA TRM, alongside SWIFT, Bloomberg Terminal, LSEG Workspace (Refinitiv), and 1C:Enterprise.
The schedule is a standard 40 to 45 hours per week with no night shifts. Around 85 percent of the workday consists of operational routine—approving payment batches, reconciling bank statements, handling KYC paperwork, and updating spreadsheets. Only about 15 percent is spent on strategic financial modeling and FX risk hedging.
